6 Principles That Make You A Winner

(My May 2019 NEWSLETTER to you all)

These are my 6 Principles That Make You A Winner!

Have you ever felt the overwhelming feeling of exhaustion after a marathon?

Well I've never run a marathon but I can imagine what exhaustion feels like.

That's exactly how I felt after a few minutes into a jog in the rarefied air of the Tian Shen Mountains of Central Asia.

My work site was a gold mine high up in the "Mountains of Heaven" at around 15,000 feet. Its beauty was striking and expansive and the comforts provided by my employer were exceptional. In spite of this, I suffered a heart attack that would plaque me for the rest of my days. Twenty-one years later, I am still battling the effects of a compromised heart that has deteriorated to a state of chronic heart failure.

I call that event my Central Asian Slap (CAS)

I have always thanked the Good Lord for allowing me to survive that event and giving me the stamina to persist. The slap awoke me to the realities of life and the need to carry on no matter what mountains I faced.

Fortunately, I have never given up and I never intend to as long as there is breath in my body and logic in my soul!

These are the 6 principles I now live by:

1. Be myself.

I was never one to cry over spilled milk or to covet what other people own or experience.

It was my CAS that added a desire to take what life offers me and to never, NEVER give up on my dreams. My dreams are MINE. They belong to nobody else. I alone will be the master of my soul and no one will ever tell me I can't succeed. My dreams are ME! So the thoughts of others are irrelevant.

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind." ― Bernard Baruch

"Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy." ― Norman Vincent Peale

2. Carry my own flag.

I would never wish an event like my CAS on anyone!

However, it is an indelible part of my reality. It has helped to shape my future and added a unique dimension to my personal flag of destiny.

Even though I appreciate others who motivate and inspire me, it is my own flag that will rule the day. Having the help of others is a mere luxury but to rely on them is absolute folly.

I will carry my own flag and plant it where my reality meets my dreams.

“When you set a good example to the world, you become a flag waving on the skies of the entire world!” ― Mehmet Murat ildan

3. Focus on the destination but enjoy the journey one step at a time.

The destination is important. That's where my dreams are realized. I intent never to lose sight of it!

However, It is so important to take moments to appreciate the beauty along the way. These small steps will re-invigorate me and take me a little closer to my destination.

"The key to realizing a dream is to focus not on success but significance, and then even the small steps and little victories along your path will take on greater meaning." ― Oprah Winfrey

4. Don't live by the clock.

Don't get me wrong: deadlines are important. There are events like doctor's appointments that should be strictly scheduled.

However, for the most part, the realization of my dreams is a ME event. Its achievement depends entirely on me and, if I continue to move ever forward, timing is not important. I will achieve my goals and realize my dreams on a timeline suitable for me, not for somebody else. The important thing is that I reach my destination at a time which is best for me.

"It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop." ― Confucius

5. Stop making excuses.

Because of my CAS, I realize I have physical limitations. There are things I simply should not do: my long-term health demands it.

However, never will I use this fact to prevent me from realizing my dreams. There may be actions I cannot take but there surely are ways to climb the mountains I face. And when I don't quite make it, I re-think and start afresh. I gain NOTHING by blaming anything or anyone for my temporary failures. On the contrary, blaming will cost me energy that is much more productive when used to keep going.

“A man can fail many times, but he isn’t a failure until he begins to blame somebody else.” ― John Burroughs

6. Never expect your SUCCESS journey to match others.

It is okay that my dream may be the same as yours.

It is also okay that my path to realizing that dream be different than your path.

We are all different with different skills and abilities which can be no more or less effective for me than for you. All I have to do to realize my dreams is to apply myself diligently and success will surely follow.

“You do what you can for as long as you can, and when you finally can’t, you do the next best thing. You back up but you don’t give up.” ― Chuck Yeager

From time to time, we all face mountains that may seem insurmountable. It is during those moments when it seems the only alternative is to quit. However, quitting is the only sure way of failing and for me that is not an option.

These are the 6 principle I use to govern my life and they can be summed up by one memorable quote:

“Winners never quit, and quitters never win.” ― Vince Lombardi

I hope this message, even if only in some small way, helps you to never give up on your dreams and inspires you to continue moving forward so your future can be filled with success.

Blessings to you all!

Kind regards,
Max
